Community-led workshops

All of our community-led workshops utilise artefacts of the local area; from commissioned archaeological excavations, to metal-detecting finds. These are tailored for three different groups: Key Stage 1, Key Stage 2, and Key Stage 3, where their content and structure varies slightly to best suit the age ranges of the participants. Please note that while landscape and artefacts are the primary teaching resources, the post-Roman workshops may also include references to historical documents, while the prehistoric workshops often celebrate Experiential/Experimental archaeology!

Community-led workshops can be run as a structured session, or as a drop-in session.

Our prehistoric workshops tend to explore Experimental Archaeology, looking at ancient craftsmanship, while our Roman and later workshops will also incorporate historical written sources. Structured sessions, with options to include: intro to archaeology profession, finds handling session, and relevant arts/crafts activities.
